Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Richard Rider, also known as Nova , will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut within the next few years.

    Who is Richard Rider/Nova?

Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist John Romita Sr., Richard Rider first appeared in Marvel Comics’ The Man Called Nova #1 in 1976. He is a member of the Nova Corps, a cosmic police force introduced into the MCU in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

In an interview with ComicBook.com to promote the latest MCU movie, Deadpool & Wolverine , Feige confirmed that a Nova project is “happening, it’s coming together.” While there had been some previous reports hinting that the Nova series would focus on the Sam Alexander incarnation, Feige dismissed those reports, revealing that it would be about “Richard Rider, yep.”

While Nova fans will be happy to hear that a Disney+ series featuring the character is finally in development, the project is still several years away from hitting the small screen. “It’s three or four years out,” Feige added, meaning that Nova won’t premiere until 2027 or 2028.

Feige’s comments come a few months after Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, animation, and television for Marvel Studios, first shared that a Nova series was in “really early development.”

Winderbaum continued, “We have a new system behind-the-scenes at Marvel Studios. We’re more like a traditional studio now. We’re developing more than we actually will produce. There are plans to develop Nova. I love Nova, too. I love Rich Rider, too. I hope it gets to the screen. The world is always chaos. There are always things. You gotta conjure these things to make them happen but I would love to see a Nova show, one day.”

Nova joins the untitled Vision series as Disney+ projects that will likely debut as part of Phase 6 of the MCU, which is currently slated to begin with The Fantastic Four in July 2025. Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) will serve as showrunner for the Vision series, with Paul Bettany expected to reprise his role as the titular hero Vision.

While plot details for the Vision series remain under wraps, it’s presumed that it will follow “White Vision,” who was introduced in the last two episodes of the 2021 Disney+ series, WandaVision.
