Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear ended speculations Monday about his interest in becoming the Democratic presidential nominee after endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. But he remains a viable option as Harris' running mate.

Eric Hyers, Beshear’s campaign manager, confirmed Monday that the governor and the vice president spoke on Sunday, but didn’t offer many details — other than "it was a good conversation."

Beasher offered his endorsement of Harris during an appearance on MSNBC. Asked whether he would be open to being Harris’ running mate, the governor hinted at the possibility.

“If somebody calls you on that, what you do is at least listen,” Beshear said.

Beshear, 46, is among several high-ranked Democrats who are being considered as potential replacements for vice president, following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race Sunday afternoon.

Other potential candidates include Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. Both have also endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee for president.
