    CAL FIRE shares tips after vehicle starts fire in Amador County

    (FOX40.COM) — A 7.5-acre fire in Amador County on Sunday caused by a vehicle driving through tall grass sparked CAL FIRE to provide some tips to the public.

    “While the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, the incident serves as a reminder that we all play a part in preventing wildfires,” CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit wrote in a news release.

    These are the items to include in your emergency kit in case of a disaster

    • Avoid driving on dry grass – The heat from your vehicle can ignite the grass
    • Use designated trails – Stick to areas meant for off-road driving.
    • Carry a fire extinguisher – Be prepared to put out small fires.
    • Don’t drag chains – Secure chains on trailers to prevent sparks.
    • Maintain your vehicle – Ensure your vehicle is in good working order to prevent mechanical sparks.
    • Use equipment safely – Avoid using equipment that can create sparks or heat, such as lawnmowers and power tools, during dry, windy conditions.

    According to data from the National Interagency Fire Center, nearly 6,900 human-caused fires burned more than 155,000 acres in California in 2023.
