Why This Jets Rookie Could Make Significant Impact In 2024

There is a lot of pressure on the New York Jets to perform during the 2024 season. Things fell apart for the team in 2023 when quarterback Aaron Rodgers was injured on the first offensive drive of the campaign.

Heading into 2024, Rodgers will be back under center, but he cannot do it alone. The quarterback play was abysmal without him in 2023, but there were plenty of other holes on the roster that needed to be addressed.

Arguably the biggest one was the offensive line. Even if Rodgers had been able to stay healthy, producing while constantly under siege would have been a tall task.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas revamped the offensive line this offseason, acquiring established talent to improve in the trenches. Another area in the team that needed help was at wide receiver.

The Jets signed some of Rodgers’ favorite teammates from his Green Bay Packers days; Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. They were two of the least efficient receivers in the NFL, leaving a massive void behind emerging star Garrett Wilson.

One of the players who will be tasked with filling in behind Wilson is Malachi Corley. A third-round pick out of Western Kentucky, Corley brings a lot to the table that the Jets need.

Over at CBS Sports , he was named one of the 50 players who could shape the 2024 season by Zachary Pereles. His ability to create with the ball in his hands is something Pereles believes New York will benefit from.

“The Jets’ wide receiver room behind Garrett Wilson is full of question marks. Is Mike Williams healthy, and can he stay that way? What’s up with Allen Lazard ? Corley has a great chance to make an impression early, perhaps even as the starting slot wide receiver. Corley is excellent after the catch, an element the Jets sorely need,” Pereles wrote.

Counting on Mike Williams to play an entire season healthy is a risky proposition. That is what made the selection of Corley such an important one in the 2024 NFL Draft.

While a role in the slot is projected for him, he does have the capability of playing outside should the need arise. A dynamic playmaker, Corley recorded 180 receptions for 2,279 yards and 22 touchdowns in the last two seasons.
