Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) declared his “friend and mentor” President Joe Biden saved his “great legacy” by dropping his reelection bid.

Moulton endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday and said he is feeling “better” about the Democratic Party going into November. The congressman’s comments followed him publishing a brutal op-ed in which he recalled recently seeing Biden and feeling like his “mentor” did not recognize him after numerous meetings throughout the years. Moulton described the president as “flickering.”

Moulton joined MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell and Chris Jansing on Monday and argued Harris is in an “amazing position” to beat Donald Trump in November, something the congressman did not believe the president was capable of. Moulton said he’s “proud” of Biden’s decision.

“I have to say I’m feeling so much better. I’m really optimistic. I think we have a path to win now, and I’m incredibly proud of President Biden for doing something that took a lot of political courage,” he said.

Moulton called Sunday a “great day” for the president and argued that the man he describes as a “friend and mentor” preserved his “great legacy” by stepping aside.

“He’ll be remembered with a great legacy for his service. Decades in the Senate, 12 years in the White House, but [also] for being willing to give up power when it was right thing to do for the party and the country,” he said. “So I think yesterday was a great day for America and it was a great day for the Democratic Party. It was a great day for Kamala Harris, but it was also a great day for Joe Biden.”
