If you just finished watching Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire on Netflix, don’t turn off your TV just yet. You’re going to want to stick around for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire after credits scene. You could also just fast-forward. This is the beauty of home entertainment!

Directed by Gil Kenan, who also co-wrote the script with Jason Rietman, this 2024 reboot sequel marked the return of Ghostbusters OGs Bill Murray and Dan Akykroyd, who joined the younger cast that includes Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim. It’s a direct sequel to the sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife , and it’s no doubt about to find a second life on streaming now that it’s available to watch on Netflix.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire takes place three years after the events of Afterlife , and finds our favorite ghost-busting family in New York City. When a “death-chilling god” starts building a ghost army in the big apple, the veteran ghostbusters we all know and love must join forces with this new crew to save humanity. Spoiler alert: They do, in fact, save humanity. But a bonus scene that comes after the credits start to roll suggests that their job might not be done yet.

Is there a Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire after credits scene?

Yes, there is a Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire mid-credits scene, which comes just after the principal cast is acknowledged. In the scene, an unnamed trucker stops at a gas station in the middle of the night. While the trucker makes a purchase at the vending machine, his truck is stolen. A wide shot reveals that the trucker was hauling a Stay-Puft Marshmallows trailer, and the sentient Mini-Pufts are the ones driving away with his truck.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire after credits scene explained:

What Time Will ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Be Streaming on Netflix?

The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man has long been an iconic character in the Ghostbusters franchise, ever since he first appeared as the big bad ghost in the 1984 film, aka the apocalyptic Sumerian deity Gozer. The character was originally thought up by Ghostbusters co-writer and star Dan Aykroyd, so it makes sense that the movie that brings back Aykroyd as Ray would also bring back the Stay-Puft.

The Mini-Pufts, which were first seen in Afterlife , are tiny, replicated versions of the OG Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. But according to the film’s director, the Mini-Pufts could be much more than a fun callback to the original movie.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , director Gil Kenan hinted that the Mini-Pufts in the after credits scene alludes to a possible sequel. “Jason [Reitman, who co-wrote the film with Kenan] and I definitely have a story up our sleeves that continues that narrative thread,” Kenan said. “There’s more trouble where that came from. Nothing we can talk about yet, but it feels like those guys have way more story to tell.”

Will there be a Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sequel?

A Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sequel, aka Ghostbusters 5 , has not yet been officially announced. However, directed Gil Kenan has repeatedly said he would be interested in continuing the franchise—and even has ideas for future movies— as long as Sony is willing to bankroll more movies.

“Jason [Reitman] and I really love Ghostbusters ,” Kenan told Total Film back in February. “We love these characters and we would be really happy if audiences were down to keep going on adventures with them. If audiences feel this way, then we know what the next stories are going to be.”

Whether or not Ghostbusters 5 happens will likely depend on whether the executives at Sony think another movie will make enough money. Frozen Empire was not the runaway success Sony hoped it would be. But it still made over $200.9 million at the global box office, and that’s a modest hit, even if it fell short of Afterlife ‘s $203.5 million box office. Still, it was hardly a flop. Another Ghostbusters movie could very well still happen. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
