Liam Neeson is no stranger to battling an enemy on screen in his many action roles. In an upcoming thriller, the enemy takes a different form.

Neeson will star in a new American thriller titled Cold Storage which is slated for release in early 2025. The film follows a team attempting to take down a deadly fungus that was stored in a military facility and accidentally escapes, wreaking havoc on the world.

The 72-year-old Irish actor will star alongside Stranger Things star Joe Keery, who is a veteran of the sci-fi genre.

According to US film and entertainment publication, Deadline, filming began on location in Italy and Morocco in 2023. Despite this, little information is available about Neeson’s character or how he will attempt to stop the fungus. The protagonist is described as a ‘bioterror operative’ and it is fair to assume that this will be Neeson, leading the fight against the extinction-threatening fungus.

With the Covid-19 pandemic barely in the rear-view mirror, the plot is eerily familiar and not entirely unrealistic. The film was created by David Koepp, who has writing credits on some of Hollywood’s biggest productions like Jurassic Park and Mission Impossible.

Speaking about the film, Koepp said Cold Storage, “has everything I’d want to see in a movie; it’s scary, funny, exhilarating, surprising, and riotously entertaining. Gavin, Jonny and I have huge ambitions for this, and are so excited to get cracking with our partners at Studiocanal. Can’t wait to launch sales at Cannes!”
