PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island is trying to get more people to spend time outdoors.

The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) said it is conducting an online survey and hosting a series of events to get the public’s input on outdoor recreation.

Feedback from the survey will be used to inform the Rhode Island Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).

The goal is to create more opportunities for residents and visitors to spend time out in nature. The DEM said the survey will also help the agency “prioritize funding for future outdoor recreation projects over the next five years.”

“Whether you regularly spend time at our network of parks, bike paths, beaches, and playing fields or are seeking to join in outdoor activities, we encourage all residents to participate in this important survey so we can capture as much information as possible to create better outdoor recreation opportunities for all,” DEM Director Terry Gray said in a press release.
