ALPHA, Mich. (WJMN) – A man in Iron County was treated to a surprise reunion with paramedics one year after they helped save his life.

Steve Gorman had been trying to remove a wasp nest on July 22, 2023 when he was stung multiple times and fell off the ladder.

Fortunately, his son was there to call 911 and place him in the skilled hands of paramedics and first responders who had him airlifted to Wausau, WI.

One of the paramedics first on scene, Katherine Crane, spoke on how the reunion affected her.

“We don’t often get a follow-up from the patient themselves,” said Crane. “We might hear what happened with them, but we don’t often get them to come back. And something of this nature is really nice to get the recognition for EMS as a whole and not just the crews.”

Sharon Gorman, Steve’s mother, was also at the reunion and spoke on how the experience affected her. She said that she and her husband were so worried they barely slept or ate while Steve was in the hospital.

Now, they are able to look at the situation with a bit of humor. They even made a special shirt for Steve which reads “Ladders: Would Not Recommend” and displayed a graphic showing one out of five stars. This shirt, fittingly, was presented to Steve on a ladder hung with paper bees.

The reunion, planned by Steve’s wife Amy, took place at the Alpha Michigan Brewing Company, a favorite spot that he and his family frequent.
