Before I became a mom, I was absolutely clueless about the items I would need once my baby came along. When it came to filling up my baby shower registry , I added the basics: you know, a crib , breast pump , car seat , fancy stroller , etc. Little did I know that one of the most used items on my list wasn't going to be the Cybex Gazelle S2 , aka the Cadillac of a stroller I registered for (although I still use this a ton and love it), but rather the jogging stroller I randomly received one day as a surprise gift. Yep, the Guava Roam stroller (was $650, now $550) is the one I now keep in my trunk at all times, and will be the stroller I recommend to all of my friends when they create their own baby registries.

Considering the fact that it often sells out, I'm clearly not the only member of Guava Roam fan club. But now that it's *finally* back in stock (and on sale, no less), I'm sharing my full review for all my fellow parents looking to get their steps in with their little one in tow.

My Review of the Guava Roam Stroller

The Guava Roam is an efficiently compact jogging stroller designed to handle rough and smooth terrains. It's got 3D Nesting Fold technology which, according to the brand, makes it able to fold up to 50 percent smaller than other jogging strollers. It's also equipped with all-terrain independent suspension which makes bumps, dips and turns a breeze without being disruptive to baby.

I've been using this stroller almost daily for three months. After our 7 a.m. (if I'm lucky) wake-up, we change the diaper and jammies, have a bottle, then me and my 7-month-old head to the park and plop right into the Guava Roam for our daily walk. (Don't worry, I also manage to throw on some clothes and brush my teeth in that tight sched.) I have a squirmy little guy who flexes his back and legs out every time he's put in the car seat or stroller, but the Guava stroller is the only one he doesn't do this in—he patiently waits as I buckle him in (luckily it only takes two seconds). Perhaps it's because the shoulder straps have very comfy padding that lays nicely on his arms, or the fact that even the buckle is padded, so there's no plastic is digging into his legs. Whatever it is, he's not wrestling to get out of it.

The other nice thing about the safety straps is that they're adjustable in height and tightness, so it's all customizable to your baby and what they feel comfortable with. There's also a wrist strap on the handle which I slip over my wrist when I'm going downhill or am in a higher-traffic area. Speaking of the handle, it's nice and far from the top of the stroller and is angled outward which is ideal for hand placement for jogging or walking. Just note that the handle is adjustable in terms of the angle it sits, but not for the height. Still, it doesn't feel too high or low for me (5'7") or my husband (6'1").

While it is on the heavier side (more on that below), the weight of the stroller is actually one of the things that makes it so great for walking or jogging, since it feels very sturdy while you're going over uneven terrain. We walk a lot with this guy, and even hike on dirt trails. The airless tires are great for this, too, because there's no worry about popping them over a sharp rock or shard of glass.

There's a storage basket underneath that's great for holding a diaper bag, bottle of water or whatever else you bring on your walks, and it comes with a parent organizer (complete with cupholder and phone compartment) that you can attach up near the handle. And if you like to keep an eye on your baby in a front-facing stroller like I do, you'll love peeping through the peekaboo window on the sun shade, which is nice and wide for a full bird's-eye view of your kiddo.

I Only Have A Couple of Cons...

While there are very few things that I don't like about this stroller, it's not going to be for everyone. Like I mentioned, I use it daily with my 7-month-old, but always keep it nicely stored in my trunk, so I was surprised when I found a small tear on the sun shade after about three months of use. Also in terms of the sun shade, I wish it pulled down a bit farther because the sun can still get in my son's eyes depending on its positioning in the morning/evening.

My only other issue with this stroller is the seat and shoulder strap fabric is tough to get clean. My baby has bad reflux so he spits up quite a bit, and I have yet to be able to fully get stains out of the material. Sunscreen has also proven to be nearly impossible to get out and leaves faded white-cast areas on the black fabric. While this doesn't bother me too much, it makes it less desirable if I wanted to sell or donate it after I'm done having kids.

These are far from deal breakers, in my opinion, but definitely something to consider if you're paying several hundred dollars for a stroller.

What Age Can You Use the Guava Stroller?

Your little one can comfortably sit in the Guava Roam stroller starting at 6 months old. It's designed to fit up to children up to 60 pounds, so it'll adapt to your growing child thanks to the spacious seat and adjustable straps. If you want to use it sooner postpartum, you can purchase the car seat adapter ($50) and click your infant seat in from day one.

Does the Guava Roam Recline?

Heck yes. My baby is at an age where he does not like to recline while seated. He's determined he's a "big boy" and only likes to sit upright, so the adjustable incline strap on the back is great because I can keep it pretty straight up, but can also recline it when I notice he is about to fall asleep by clicking the button to release the strap.

How Much Does the Guava Roam Weigh?

This stroller is heavy duty and weighs about 29 pounds, so if you're looking for something super lightweight and easy to heave over your shoulder, this isn't for you. It's made of a durable aluminum alloy metal frame and has tough rubber tires to last for all your kids.

How to Open the Guava Roam Stroller

Opening the Guava Roam stroller requires little to no effort. I keep mine in the trunk of my car and I pull it out by the handle and it literally pops open without pressing any buttons or pulling any levers. The padded handle has two buttons on the side to fold up and down or adjust the angle based on your height. The handle also has a dial option to lock the wheels facing forward, or to release them for 360-degree turning for when you're walking/jogging. Plus, there's a little fold-up cheat sheet on the back of the sun shade in case you need assistance.

Bottom Line

At the end of the day, I love this stroller and so does my baby, so even though it's pretty pricey, I would buy it and recommend to a friend. It has simple-to-use features with a heavy duty construction that makes me feel like my little guy is safe and comfortable with every mile we go.
