This is a duo I've wanted to see for quite some time. Cody Jinks is a modern-day Texas outlaw, and he is teaming up with the frontman from one of the best southern rock bands in the business, Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke . Last week, Jinks performed a show in Canandaigua, New York, with Blackberry Smoke opening for him. Talk about a killer lineup. https://twitter.com/CodyJinksMusic/status/1814395842465505441 During Jinks' set, he brought out Starr and told the crowd that they had been penning a new tune together and wanted to share it for the first time on stage that night.
"A brand new song... acoustic, that we literally just worked a couple of times through before Blackberry Smoke took the stage. The idea came for this song the last time we were out with Smoke, 3-4 weeks ago. I was talking to Charlie and said, 'Look man, I love playing with you guys; my band loves playing with you guys because you guys aren't in the music business..." Jinks pauses to introduce Charlie Starr as he walks out on stage, gets settled next to Jinks, and then continues his story of why he appreciates Blackberry Smoke. "'We love playing with you guys because you aren't in the music business. Y'all are just a bunch of cool dudes that want to play some music.' And so, it gave us the idea for this song. Charlie came up with the chorus line...I think we've only gone through this twice...
Yeah, let's do it. This one's called 'In My Blood." Jinks says to the crowd as he and Starr sit on barstools with their acoustic guitars. The acoustic track is stellar for only having played it through two times. The lyrics highlight that music is in their blood. By making music, they share pieces of their soul through poetic words that connect with an audience... and sometimes don't. But in the end, they don't care if it connects because they don't care about fame or fortune, but just that they can keep doing what they love. "It's in my blood In my bones ... Cut out the soul, and why can't you see It's in my blood." The slow and steady melody carries the tune as Jinks and Starr showcase their songwriting and incredible vocal talent. I hope we get this sooner rather than later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKu1i7MkwWQ
