South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently inducted seven new members into the college’s chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) in recognition of the students’ outstanding academic achievement. The ceremony was held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus.

Dr. John Watford, President of South Georgia Technical College congratulated the inductees and offered words of encouragement. “You have a calling as a student, and you’re working toward your calling,” Watford said. “We’re here to honor you tonight and empower you to move on to better things when you graduate from South Georgia Tech with the distinction of being a member of the National Technical Honor Society.”

SGTC Mathematics instructor Chester Taylor followed with a statement of the purposes of the NTHS: to reward excellence in workforce education; to encourage students to reach a higher level of achievement; to promote honesty, responsibility, teamwork, leadership and citizenship; to help build and maintain partnerships with local business and industry; and to foster a more positive image for workforce education in America.

Dr. Pam Fields, a tutor at SGTC, explained the meaning of the NTHS Colors. Silver represents value, reward, and worth; white represents truth, honesty; and purple represents achievement and honor.

Biology instructor Matthew Cowan listed the seven attributes all members of the NTHS share in common: responsibility, scholarship, skill, honesty, citizenship, leadership, and service. Cowan also led the inductees in reciting the NTHS Motto.

Each inductee was then presented a personalized certificate commemorating their induction into the National Technical Honor Society.
