JONES COUNTY, Miss. ( WHLT ) – The Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department in Jones County is in need of donations to help finish building a new fire station.
The department was able to finish the outside exterior of the facility using $92,000 in county funding, but they need at least $10,000 more to finish the inside of the building. Fire Chief David Houston said inflated prices on building materials caused the department to run out of funding quicker than anticipated.

“The old station when it was built did not take into consideration how much the fire department could grow. It didn’t take into consideration all the training requirements we’re required to have. Now, our current station has one little small office with one little small air conditioner, so on days like this, inside the station it’ll be 120 degrees. This station will have an air-conditioned training room and air-conditioned office in it,” said Houston.
The fire department also plans to have training at the new facility. If you would like to make a donation, you can call the fire department at 601-433-8645.
