Oscar Mayer Wienermobile involved in crash, rolls onto its side on Interstate 294 in Illinois

Hold on to your buns. An Oscar Mayer Wienermobile was involved in a crash and rolled onto its side on Interstate 294 in Illinois Monday morning. According to officials, no one was injured.

And no, it doesn't appear that the huge hot dog on wheels slipped on ketchup — this happened in the Chicagoland area, after all — mustard or relish.

Illinois State Police responded to "a two-unit rollover traffic crash" on I-294 northbound just before Roosevelt Road in Cook County around 11:12 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 23-foot-long fiberglass Wienermobile and a Hyundai sedan were traveling north when the Wienermobile struck the sedan, lost control, overcorrected and rolled onto its side, ISP said. The northbound right lane was shut down for the traffic crash investigation for just over an hour.

No injuries were reported at the time of the crash, police said.

"We’re grateful that everybody involved is safe and there were no injuries," a Kraft Heinz Company spokesperson said in a statement Monday afternoon. "We’re offering ongoing support for our Hotdoggers and we appreciate the support we’ve received from local authorities. Safety on the road is top priority for us."

If you're not familiar with Hotdoggers, they're the vehicle's spokespeople/drivers.

The Wienermobile involved — there are six Wienermobile vehicles total —was heading to Chicago from Ohio at the time of the crash, the Kraft Heinz Company spokesperson said.

Oscar Mayer, which got its start in the late 1800s, had been headquartered in Madison for nearly 100 years before relocating to Chicago in 2015.

It's a part of the Kraft Heinz food and beverage company, which was created in 2015 through the combination of Pittsburgh-based Heinz and suburban Chicago-based Kraft, which was engineered by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital, according to a previous Journal Sentinel report .
