WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Getting stationed at McConnell Air Force Base comes with a culinary benefit — eating at an award-winning dining hall.

The Chisholm Trail Inn Dining Facility at the base won the 68th annual Air Force John L. Hennessy Trophy Award on May 17 in Chicago, beating 70 other facilities globally.

“We fuel the airmen that fuel the planes,” Tech. Sgt. Rontera Powell, food service section chief, said in a news release. “I’m constantly mentoring my airmen that, yes, our job is not always glamorous, and it is very taxing, but our job is one of the most important parts to the mission in projecting air power.”

More than 60 people work at the Chisholm Trail Inn, which feeds more than 193,000 customers annually. Anyone with base access may eat there.
