Jets Trade For 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk In This Blockbuster Proposal

Could the New York Jets throw their hat into the ring for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk?

Aiyuk requested a trade from the 49ers last week, and while the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders have been labeled the two most likely destinations, some teams may be lurking on the fringes.

    Like the Jets.

New York has already been very busy addressing its receiving corps this offseason, signing Mike Williams and selecting Malachi Corley in the third round of the NFL Draft.

However, Williams is coming off of a torn ACL and Corley is just a rookie, so there is no doubt that the Jets have some major question marks at the receiver position behind Garrett Wilson.

    Enter Aiyuk.

Josiah Caldwell of Pro Football Focus has proposed a trade were New York sends two 2025 draft picks—a first-rounder and a third—to San Francisco in exchange for the dynamic pass-catcher.

This would provide Aaron Rodgers with a pair of top-level wide outs, and if Williams is able to fully recover from his knee injury, the Jets’ aerial attack would suddenly be lethal.

Will the 49ers actually trade Brandon Aiyuk?

Of course, the Niners don’t actually have to honor Aiyuk’s request, and they probably won’t.

The 49ers are trying to win a championship. Trading their best receiver would obviously be counterproductive to that goal and would move them that much further away from the Kansas City Chiefs, who San Francisco lost to in overtime this past Super Bowl.

It’s also important to note that the Niners have been in this position before.

Back in the summer of 2022, fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel demanded a trade due to a contract dispute, much like Aiyuk. However, the 49ers ultimately agreed to terms on an extension with Samuel.

Does that necessarily mean that San Francisco will strike a long-term pact with Aiyuk? No, but more than likely, the Niners will at least keep Aiyuk on the roster for one more year, attempt to win a Super Bowl with him and then revisit the situation next offseason.

Aiyuk is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. He didn’t make the Pro Bowl (and has yet to do so), but he did earn a Second-Team All-Pro selection.

We’ll see if the 49ers can placate Brandon Aiyuk with a fresh deal. If not, the Jets would be wise to at least inquire about his availability.
