    New Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Documentary, ‘Road Diary,’ Getting World Premiere at Toronto Film Festival

    In May 2024, it was announced that a documentary focusing on Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 2023-2024 world tour will air on Hulu and Disney+ starting this October. Now comes word that the movie, titled Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, will get its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

    While a specific date for the screening has yet to be announced, the festival itself is scheduled to run from September 5 through September 15. The movie that will be shown as gala presentation during the Toronto film fest. A complete schedule for the event will be announced on August 13.

    As previously reported, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will offer “the most in-depth look ever” at the creation of the Boss and his group’s legendary concert shows.

    The film features behind-the-scenes clips at rehearsals, backstage and performance footage, and interviews with Springsteen and The E Street Band’s members. The doc, which will be narrated by Bruce, also will include rare archival clips.

    The movie was directed by frequent Springsteen collaborator, Grammy- and Emmy-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny. Zimny’s resume includes such other Boss-related documentaries and concert flicks as Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You (2020), Western Stars (2019), Springsteen on Broadway (2018), The Ties That Bind (2015), and The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town (2010).

    A New Elton John Doc Also Will Premiere at the Toronto Festival

    Road Diary isn’t the only documentary about a famous rock artist scheduled to get its world premiere Toronto International Film Festival. Elton John: Never Too Late also will be among the festival’s gala presentations. According to a description on the festival’s website, the film will present “a riveting and highly intimate portrait” of Elton John.

    The movie will feature candid interviews with the pop-rock legend, as well as previously unseen archival footage. Elton John: Never Too Late was co-directed by R.J. Cutler and John’s husband, David Furnish.

    About Springsteen’s Upcoming Tour Plans

    Springsteen and the E Street Band are preparing to finish up a European summer leg of their current tour. The outing will come to a close with a pair of concerts at Wembley Stadium in London, on Thursday, July 25, and Saturday, July 27.
