Organizer Takehiku Nakamura explained how this year’s event progressed from the days at Aloha Stadium and how its popular Keiki Soccer Clinic is expanding opportunities for Hawaii’s soccer youth.
The clinic will commence on July 26 for keiki ages four to 14, followed by a new tournament addition on July 27 for keiki ages eight to 11.
The Pacific Rim Cup held its last professional games at Aloha Stadium in 2019 and has been on hold since the pandemic. Since 2022, organizer Blue United Corporation has conducted annual summer clinics for Hawaii’s soccer youth, with hopes of reviving the professional games soon.
Former Japan National team member Takuya Yamada, local boys and former Seattle Sounders professional players Shandon Hopeau and Kenji Treschuk from Hawaii will participate as training coaches.
Additionally, David “Bingy” Lara, the head of academy recruitment of Seatle Sounders FC (MLS), will attend to meet clinic and tournament participants.
