Jets' Haason Reddick tabbed trade candidate amidst potential contract dispute

Trading the player away after trading for him only a few months ago? It doesn't seem feasible, even for the New York Jets .

While letting homegrown edge rusher Bryce Huff walk to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, the Jets traded a conditional draft pick to Philly for veteran Haason Reddick, who is riding a string of four straight 11+ sack seasons. Reddick, who will turn 30 years old on September 22, is reportedly seeking a new contract and a higher salary. He did not attend voluntary OTAs before skipping out on mandatory June minicamp.

The potential contact dispute and Reddick's value as a proven edge rusher have led Bleacher Report 's Kristopher Knox to place the sack machine on his "trade block big board."

Reddick stands at No. 8 on the board, one spot ahead of Atlanta Falcons ' quarterback Taylor Heinicke. San Francisco 49ers ' wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who has reportedly requested a trade , occupies the No. 1 spot as the prime candidate to be dealt.

The author explained the methodology for comparing the list by noting the "trade board starts with 15 players who have already been the subject of trade speculation or who would be logical trade candidates due to contract status and/or roster makeup. Those players are then ranked based on past production, upside, positional value and their likelihood of being traded to get to our top 10."

The two 2023 NFC finalists — the 49ers and Detroit Lions — were listed as potential partners in a deal for Reddick.

From 2024 NFL Trade Block Big Board Entering Training Camp :

"Pass-rusher Haason Roddick is another player who won't be actively shopped in the coming days. ... However, the Jets may ultimately have no choice. They added the 29-year-old on the final year of his contract, and Reddick is looking for more long-term security. ... a bump to Reddick's $14.3 million base salary isn't satisfactory, the seasoned sack artist could try forcing his way out of New York. Should Reddick become available for the second time this offseason, he'll draw interest. ... ."

Whether or not a long-term extension happens, Reddick will eventually see the field this year and the Jets could use his production up front. He led the Eagles with 27.0 sacks over the last two seasons.

New York is slated to hold its first training camp practice on July 24 in Florham Park.
