MT. HOPE, WV (WVNS) — The Mt. Hope Fire Department in Fayette County put out a call for EMTs and were overwhelmed by the answers.

Corporal Joshua Wickline and K9 Nala: two sidekicks with an amazing tracking story

Michael Kees, a Firefighter and EMT with the department, said they got around 40 applicants who responded to the position.

He said this batch of applicants has some of the best people for the job.

Kees also said he feels assured the department will be able to use the new hires for the benefit of the town.

“So, our goal is to have one ambulance in town at all times to benefit the residents. And right now, we’re primarily a 911 service, but we are looking at turning into doing things such as doctor’s appointments and dialysis for the people that don’t have transportation,” said Kees. “So, it’ll benefit the elderly community that we have here as well as the younger people who may be doing, going out doing adventures and things of that nature.”

Kees said hiring on new EMTs will also benefit the other work that the department does, especially at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.

The Mt. Hope Fire Department is currently in the process of going through all of their applications.
