Ribbon-cutting ceremony marks opening of new Goochland Elementary School

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 18, officially marked the opening of the new Goochland Elementary School in Goochland County.

Principal Tina McCay was joined by current and former members of the Goochland County Public School Board, as well as other Goochland County Public Schools officials, for the ceremony.

“Today marks a milestone for the whole Goochland community,” McCay said. “It’s a culmination of dedication, perseverance, and collaboration, and I am deeply honored to stand before you as the principal of this beautiful building. This facility represents more than just bricks and mortar. It embodies our collective vision for the future, where students can learn, grow, and thrive. Together, we have created not just a school but a hub of learning and innovation.”

The new school, which cost $55 million to build, is 104,000 square feet on 25 acres of land and has space for up to 700 students.

“To all who put so many hours into brainstorming, designing, discussing, negotiating, redesigning, approving and building, we thank you,” said Goochland County Board of Supervisors’ Chair Charlie Vaughters. “We thank county staff, past and present. Goochland County Schools administration, past and present. Goochland School Board members, past and present, and Supervisors, past and present, who oversaw this spectacular project. It doesn’t just take a village, it takes a county. Most importantly, we thank all of our educators with Goochland County Schools who work tirelessly to educate our children so each can reach his or her potential.”
