‘Cringe To Cool in 24 Hours’: CNN’s Van Jones Says ‘There’s Something Happening’ With Kamala on TikTok

CNN commentator Van Jones claimed on Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris had gone “from cringe to cool in 24 hours” thanks to the power of TikTok.

“There’s something happening that’s hard to quantify because what’s happening on TikTok right now is extraordinary,” Jones told CNN anchor Pamela Brown . He continued:

All of the things that were cringey about Kamala – her laugh, the coconut tree comment , being unburdened by what – like all those weird things she said, she’s gone from cringe to cool in 24 hours as a whole generation has taken all that content and remixed it in all these incredible TikTok videos.

So it’s hard to quantify energy, but it seems to me that this is what happened. For three weeks after Joe Biden had that debate debacle, we were kind of sitting outside the ICU with a death watch for democracy, just imagining what it’s gonna be like to have Donald Trump back in charge, what he’s gonna do to us. And the minute that Joe Biden stepped back and let someone else step forward, she caught a rocket ship of enthusiasm and hope and just pent-up desire for something not the future that looked like was gonna be inevitable.

He concluded, “This is not a campaign, this a movement.”

Last week, Jones used almost the exact same words about “something happening” to describe the energy at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

“The last time I was in a convention that felt like this was Obama 2008,” he said during CNN’s panel coverage of the convention. “There’s something happening.”

Jones almost began to weep on Sunday after President Joe Biden announced he would be withdrawing from the 2024 election and endorsing Harris for president instead.

“I just want to say, I don’t know who’s going to be the VP, the new VP. I don’t know anything about politics. I just know that I love this man, I care about this man,” he said. “It was painful every day to sit up here and talk about him like he’s just a, you know, some, some problem for the party.”
