NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The New Mexico Department of Health is launching a new campaign to attract healthcare professionals to the state. According to the NMDOH, the Free to Provide campaign is designed to highlight the freedom medical providers in New Mexico have to provide medical care and other services that may be restricted in other states.

The NMDOH said that New Mexico allows them to freely give care without second-guessing their medical judgment. Officials are hoping to highlight the opportunities in New Mexico like tax incentives, loan repayment, and the state’s strong cultural heritage.

“The bottom line in New Mexico is we need more of everything, everywhere. We need more particularly family practice providers, OB-GYN, those kinds of things, and we need them in urban areas we need them in rural areas,” said NMDOH Secretary Patrick Allen.

The campaign will be seen online and on billboards in major cities in Arizona and Texas. “We think that states like Texas have given us a big leg up by creating an atmosphere in their states where we think there are a number of providers who have got concerns about practicing in those states, what their legal risk is, uncertainty of that dynamic. We wanted to take advantage of that,” said Allen.

The campaign is expected to last for four weeks but if it goes well, Allen said they will extend the campaign and potentially expand into other states.
