ELM GROVE, W.Va. (WTRF) – Ohio County Schools aren’t only seeing new students this fall, they have officially brought on 23 new professional hires throughout elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.

They were recognized and officially hired at the most recent Board of Education meeting.

The majority of the new personnel have graduated from schools in the Ohio Valley, and even Ohio County Schools and are returning to their alma mater to invest in the next generation of students.

”I think that the beautiful thing about that is they bring an energy. They bring vitality. They bring new ideas. They’re bonding already. We are so lucky to have all of you on board. I know that your hearts are in a great place. And you want to come back to your home area. And that says a lot. So, I want to personally thank all of you. Thank you for coming back. We’re excited to have you.”

Continuing discussions of the upcoming school year included the highly talked about cell phone policy.

Wheeling Park High School is moving forward with purchasing calculator holders for each classroom where students will place their phones upon arrival.

No official vote has been made yet on the policy for elementary, middle, and high school, but the Ohio County Schools Board of Education is evaluating revisions and waiting on feedback from the schools before an official decision is made.
