Why Plymouth Argyle transfer to join Wayne Rooney makes sense for Jayden Danns

Jayden Danns burst onto the scene last season after scoring his first two goals in professional football and helping Liverpool win the Carabao Cup within the space of just eight days.

The youngster had been training with the first-team squad for a large part of the season before impressing Jurgen Klopp enough to hand him his Premier League debut, coming on for the final few minutes of the 4-1 victory over Luton Town on February 21.

Four days later, Danns played the final 33 minutes of the Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea at Wembley, putting in a credible performance to help his side over the line and lift the trophy.

And just when the teenager probably didn't think things could get any better, he scored his first two goals for the club in an FA Cup Fifth Round tie against Southampton at Anfield .

Just 11 minutes after replacing fellow academy product Lewis Koumas, Danns latched onto a Harvey Elliott pass to score with a lovely dinked finish in front of the Kop. Fifteen minutes later, he'd find the back of the net again to make it an unforgettable night beneath the lights on Merseyside for the youngster.

There would be just two more substitute appearances for the remainder of the season, but Danns had done enough to put his name in the spotlight. Now, five months after that crazy month, Danns is being linked with a move away on a season-long loan.

According to TEAMtalk , Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle are the frontrunners for his signature, with the former England international keen to bolster his side’s attacking options ahead of the new season. As per the report, Rooney is a big admirer of the Liverpool hot-shot , who could have the opportunity to learn so much from the Premier League legend.

Despite last season's impressive breakthrough into the first-team setup, a move away makes sense for Danns. The appointment of Slot marks a fresh start for the youngster, yet it's unlikely he will see an increase in game time due to the current options at the Dutchman's disposal.

Yet he can use his 2023-24 experience to push him on and thrive at his next port of call. Even though a move to Plymouth may seem daunting, with the Devon-based outfit located a good 5-6 hour drive from Liverpool, the chance of gaining regular first-team football is too good to pass up.

Not only will he still be playing at a high level in the Championship, surrounded by a whole squad-full of senior pros, but he gets to learn from one of the greatest to ever do it as a striker - Rooney.

The former Manchester United bagsman was a master at finding the back of the net and knows what it takes to hit the big time as a youngster. A full season under his guidance could be career-changing.

If things go to plan, then Danns has every chance of putting himself in the frame for the first-team in 12 months time. Regular minutes and the chance to learn from someone of Rooney's stature could be everything he needs to unlock his full potential.
