    West Texans report feeling tremors after 4.9 earthquake hits Scurry County Monday night

    West Texas was rattled by a series of earthquakes, including a 4.9 magnitude event, Monday night in Scurry County.

    According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) , Scurry County was rocked Monday night by a reported 4.9-magnitude earthquak e.

    The 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck 17 kilometers (10.56 miles) northeast of Hermleigh, Texas, at a depth of 7.7 km, around 10:38 p.m., leading citizens to report tremors from all over West Texas. Two other earthquakes followed shortly after around the same area, including a 4.4 magnitude earthquake about 10:46 p.m. and a 3.1 magnitude earthquake at 11:56 p.m.

    Most of the reports emanated from the larger communities in the region, according to the USGS , including Lubbock, Midland, Big Spring, San Angelo and Abilene.

    As of Monday night, there were no reports of damage or injuries associated with the earthquake.

    West Texas is not unfamiliar with moderate earthquakes , although most produce little to no confirmed damage. A 4.4 magnitude event was reported April 10 in Martin County , about 13 miles north of Stanton.
