The start of the high school football season is quickly approaching, and in just a little over four months, six teams will be crowned state champions by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association .
Although official practices won't begin for a few weeks, teams across the state have been holding voluntary summer workouts, gearing up for the new season.
Last year, four MPSSAA teams finished as undefeated state champions — Fort Hill in Class 1A, Dunbar in 2A-1A, Stephen Decatur in 2A and Oakdale in 3A . The other title winners were Mergenthaler Vo-Tech (4A-3A) and Henry A. Wise (4A).

The first day of official practice is Aug. 14.
