Missouri Association of Counties welcomed six Boone County leaders recently to steering committees.

The appointments happened July 1 and Boone County announced them Friday. Steering committees help craft association policy on state and federal regulations and other administrative matters. They make recommendations to the legislative committee on any official resolution referred to the committee.

Northern District Commissioner Janet Thompson and Prosecuting Attorney Roger Johnson will serve on the policing/justice/mental health committee, which is responsible for issues affecting courts, jails, sheriffs, prosecutors, circuit court clerks and coroners, along with issues on aging, public health, mental health, substance use, developmental disabilities, social services, human services, nursing homes and mental health facilities.

Southern District Commissioner Justin Aldred and County Clerk Brianna Lennon now are on the IT/Telecommunications/Broadband Committee. It is focused on all telecommunications and technology policies, IT development and implementation, IT innovation, e-governance and geospatial data collection and utilization.

Recorder of Deeds Bob Nolte will serve on the Intergovernmental Affairs/Finance/Tax Issues/Pensions committee. It is focused on issues with mandates, elections, open meetings and records, retirement benefits and employment laws, along with those on property taxes, sales and use taxes, other revenue sources, investment laws, county budgets and offices of county clerk, treasurer, assessor, collector, commissioner, recorder and public administrator.

Auditor Kyle Rieman is on the Community and Economic Development Committee, focused on all matters related to housing, economic development and workforce development.
