Ex-Chelsea star raises Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer concern as speculation swirls

Liverpool has been tentatively linked with holding an interest in Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich this summer. Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has under a year left on his existing contract at Anfield .

Previously, Sky Germany has claimed that the Reds could move for Kimmich despite his high salary, with Liverpool and a select group of other elite clubs put forward as options that the player would consider. There is a question mark over whether new sporting director Richard Hughes would be as interested in Kimmich as the 29-year-old might be in Liverpool, but also around what it would do for Alexander-Arnold, who plays a similar position.

"Joshua Kimmich, he impressed," Darren Ambrose said on talkSPORT (as transcribed by HITC ). "Back end of his 20s. He is 29. It looks like Liverpool , Arsenal and Manchester City , among other teams, are linked to Joshua Kimmich. Reports suggest maybe around $52m (£40m/€48m) ."

Former Chelsea ace Scott Minto added: "He is a good player. A center midfield player as well as a right-back. He would definitely add to anybody’s team. For Liverpool, what do you do with Trent then? You have got a right-back there who could play in midfield. It’s the same sort of principle. There is no doubt about it, he would add to it."

Ultimately, Liverpool needs to tie down Alexander-Arnold to a new deal, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah . But as Liverpool enters the Arne Slot era, all three key men currently only have contracts running until the end of the coming season.

Negotiations will need to take place, but it seems unlikely that talks would be held with Kimmich, even as the rumors persist. And until Alexander-Arnold does pen an extension, the shadow of Real Madrid looming in the background will only get larger.

Liverpool.com says: There is no world in which Alexander-Arnold should be leaving Liverpool and signing him up to a new contract has to be a priority. As for Kimmich, he is 29 and on big wages. The Reds are highly unlikely to go anywhere near him.
