PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Warm, muggy weather is ahead for today with afternoon showers and thunderstorms.  Highs will be in the mid-80s, and with the humidity factored in, it will feel like the lower-90s.

By mid-afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will develop, and there will be areas across the Piedmont that receive an inch or more in rainfall.

This brings the risk of localized flooding and urban flash flooding, so please be vigilant as you travel toward the end of the day.

The chance of rain is 70%.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into the evening before tapering off after midnight.  Lows settle to the lower-70s by daybreak tomorrow.

Wednesday is going to be the warmest day of the week, with highs in the upper-80s.  Rain chances ebb to 25%.

Thursday will bring an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms again, and from the Triad eastward, we will have a threat of excessive rainfall again.

Rainfall totals of an additional inch or more are possible in localized areas. Highs are going to be cooler, in the upper-70s.

A cold front is forecast to plunge southward, through the Piedmont, on Friday.  The chance of rain holds at 40% with mostly cloudy skies and highs will be in the lower-80s.

Behind the cold front, the humidity over the weekend is expected to drop nicely, and highs will hold steadily in the mid-80s through Monday.

Skies will be mostly cloudy on Saturday, then partly cloudy on Sunday and Monday.  Rain chances will stay at or below 20%.
