Liverpool must sign three players this summer with Euro 2024 winner among them

Liverpool needs to make a statement of intent that it is backing its new head coach. While the squad is in relatively decent shape, the Reds need to tailor it to the requirements of Arne Slot.
Slot has inherited a far stronger roster of players than his predecessor did, in fairness. Despite attracting Liverpool due to his Feyenoord side playing in a broadly similar style, the Dutchman will still make tweaks though.
He will also face a stiff challenge in his debut campaign in terms of extra European matches too. This is not a season for a tight squad, so here are three players Liverpool must sign this summer.
Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad)
The Liverpool of Michael Edwards has never seemed to care about losing face in the transfer market. It won’t be swayed by negative fan opinion either, and nor should it be.
But with Slot taking on the titanic task of replacing Klopp, this is not a summer for keeping powder dry. This doesn’t mean crashing in with foolish offers, but with Takefusa Kubo seemingly identified as a target and Liverpool reportedly willing to pay his $65m (£51m/€60m) release clause, it’s time for action.
It would lift the gloom-infesting corners of the Reds’ fan base. With Slot making strong use of wingers and Kubo statistically similar to his former player Calvin Stengs, this deal could light a spark for the new head coach’s new look Liverpool.
Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen)
The Reds have been strongly linked to Piero Hincapie in the past. His agent even reportedly claimed in 2023 that Liverpool was in talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a transfer, though he later backtracked on that .
Whatever the truth in what has gone before, the 22-year-old would be a fine addition this summer. Hincapie is left-footed and versatile, which would make him instantly valuable to a Reds squad largely staffed by right-footed players.
He has played center-back and left-back, so could potentially provide cover for either Andy Robertson or Virgil van Dijk as required. The Ecuadorian also played wing-back at times, including in a win over Bayern Munich, so could unlock a new formation for Slot if he has any plans to head in that direction.
Fabian Ruiz (Paris Saint-Germain)
Wouldn’t it be nice if Liverpool could sign Rodri from Manchester City? Can you imagine? It would break the internet, or at the very least set fire to your social media.
We can obviously dismiss the possibility of that ever happening. His fellow Euro 2024 winner Fabian Ruiz is among the five players most statistically similar to Rodri, though, and while his salary in the French capital may prove problematic, there’s no doubting his quality.
Again, he is someone in whom Liverpool have supposedly held interest in the past . Ruiz can play holding midfield, as he did against Kubo and co. in the Champions League this past season. He also assisted a goal in that match, so would offer plenty to the heart of Slot’s Reds. Now, let's see how opportunistic Richard Hughes is feeling this week.
