Xander Schauffele humbly dismissed compliments from Justin Rose's caddie after clinching The Open title. He bagged his second major on Sunday, following up his PGA Championship win in May.

His triumph at Royal Troon propelled him to second place in the world golf rankings, surpassing Rory McIlroy who had a less than stellar week. At 30 years old, Schauffele has consistently been a top performer on the PGA Tour, and now he's got the silverware to prove it.

Mark Fulcher, who witnessed Schauffele's impressive final round as Rose attempted but failed to overtake him for the lead, was full of praise.

"He's clearly one of the best golfers of his generation," commented Fulcher, a seasoned veteran with over twenty years in the game. "It's taken a little bit of time for him to cross that finish line."

"He's actually quite nice, too. You'd almost like him to be a bit of a ------. But he really couldn't be nicer. He's a lovely fellow. It's just nice to know that he's top class."

When asked if he agreed with Fulcher's view, Schauffele sidestepped the question. "Pretty much that's you guys' job to speculate on those things," he said to the press.

"I'm just trying to win as many of these things as I can and play the best golf as I can and be a decent guy. So I'll let you ponder that one."

Schauffele secured The 152nd Open with a remarkable final-round 65, which he described as the pinnacle of his playing days. After being known as one of golf's nearly-men, with 12 top-10 finishes in majors without securing victory, he finally ended that run earlier this year at Valhalla.

"Winning the first one helped me a lot today on the back nine," he confessed. "I had some feeling of calmness come through and that was very helpful on what has been one of the hardest back nines I've ever played in a tournament."

"It's a dream come true to win two majors in one year. It took me forever just to win one, so to have two now is something else. There's super stressful moments when you're trying to win a major championship. I felt them in the past, the ones I didn't win, and I let them get to me."

Now Schauffele has set his sights on a career Grand Slam, having become the first golfer since Jordan Spieth in 2015 to clinch their initial two major victories in the same season. This year also marks the first time since 1982 that Americans have claimed all four majors in a single year, following Scottie Scheffler's Masters win and Bryson DeChambeau's US Open success.
