Patriots’ improved cash spending proves change under new regime

The New England Patriots ranked ninth in the NFL with $259 million in cash spending, per Roster Management System, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss .

New England had a relatively busy free agency extending several in-house players to new deals. That included signing defensive tackle Christian Barmore to the biggest non-Tom Brady contract in franchise history.

The Patriots’ cash spending in 2024 has totaled $259 million, according to Roster Management System, ranking them ninth in the NFL. That has been reflected in a flurry of free agent re-signings and signings as the shift to a new regime led by executive vice president of personnel Eliot Wolf has been more aggressive in its spending.

The Patriots have ranked amongst the lowest cash-spending teams over the last 10 years. However, that trend appears to be changing under lead personnel executive Eliot Wolf.

It remains to be seen if the lack of high-end external moves in free agency, particularly at wide receiver and offensive tackle, impacts the team negatively.

They want to rebuild with young talent and reward guys already on their roster. Patriots fans are hoping it all pays off on the football field at some point.
