Jets Haason Reddick Makes Bold Decision on Training Camp

One of the big moves the New York Jets made this offseason was acquiring pass rusher Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets sent a conditional third-round pick to the Eagles that can turn into a second.

For it to turn into a second-round pick, Haason Reddick needs to play 67.5 percent of the snaps and record 10 sacks on the season. Of course, to achieve that, he needs to show up, which he has zero plans of doing.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Haason Reddick is going to hold out of Jets camp. He wants a new contract and until something can be worked out, he will remain away from his new team.

Entering the final year of his contract, the star edge rusher is set to earn $14.5 million. The rest of the Jets will be reporting for training camp today, but Haason Reddick will not be present.

As a result of not reporting to training camp, Haason Reddick will be fined a mandatory $50,000 per day. This is a nightmare scenario for the Jets, who paid a premium draft pick and made other moves to accommodate his arrival.

Presuming Haason Reddick would be in their starting lineup, John Franklin-Myers was traded to the Denver Broncos. Rotational edge piece Bryce Huff departed in free agency, signing a deal with Philadelphia.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets were under the impression that Haason Reddick would be okay playing out the final season on his contract and hit free agency in 2025. Whether it was the player changing their mind or a miscommunication, this is far from ideal for New York.

Prior to the trade, however, Reddick’s representatives made it clear he was seeking a new contract. This will be something to keep an eye on, as the Jets could consider flipping him again to recoup the draft pick they sent to the Eagles.
