    Best school systems ranking 2024 report: Where does Connecticut stand?

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A personal finance website released its list of the “States with the Best & Worst School Systems in 2024” on Monday.

    WalletHub.com ranked Connecticut’s school system second best. Massachusetts is the only state with a better system, according to WalletHub.

    Researchers said they compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 32 quality and safety metrics, including performance, funding, safety, class size and instructor credentials.

    According to WalletHub, Connecticut is ranked No. 2 overall, thanks to its rankings in the quality and safety categories (No. 2 and 6, respectively).

    The state ranked as No. 5 in having the lowest pupil-to-teacher ratio.

    WalletHub found that Connecticut boasts the best ACT test scores in the country. Around 7.6% of the state’s public schools also rank among the top 700 nationwide—the third-highest percentage.

    According to WalletHub, the state has the lowest prevalence of illegal drugs on school property, the third-lowest youth incarceration rate and the sixth-lowest share of students who have carried any kind of weapon on school property.
