ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — St. Albans Roadside Park will be full of music and fun on Saturday, and that's just how Scott Tweedy likes it.

As the program coordinator for St. Albans Parks and Recreation, it's Tweedy's job to think up fun events like the city's annual Dragonpalooza Beer and Music Festival.

"There is a group of us on the [Parks and Recreation] committee and we came up with Dragonpooloza," Tweedy told NewsBreak in a recent email.

The name of the festival pays homage to the local high school, whose mascot is the dragon.

"St. Albans' nickname is 'Dragons'," Tweedy said.

On Saturday, July 27, Dragonpalooza will bring citizens from throughout the greater Kanawha Valley to St. Albans for the one-day event. The festival begins at noon and continues until 10 p.m.

While beer and music highlight Dragonpalooza, it also features food and beverage vendors, arts and craft stalls, and a kid-friendly activity zone.

"The most exciting thing is the community coming together and having an opportunity to interact with food, music, and kids activities," Tweedy said.

A lineup of local musicians is expected to perform on two different stages during the all-day festival, organizers said. Performers include The Rimshot Band, Heavy Hitters Band, Relative Obscurity, Theatre of Crue (a Motley Crue tribute band), Jesse Lee, Matthew Thomas, Emmy of the Mountains and Makenna Hope.

The family-friendly festival will feature events for the little ones, too.

"We will have inflatables, arts and crafts, and face painting," Tweedy said. A dedicated Kid Zone with balloon animals and other child-friendly activities will be available to young attendees.

Area boaters are encouraged to join in the festivities, organizers note. Live music and more can be enjoyed from the nearby Kanawha River.

"The day will be a big boost to our city," Tweedy said.

Dragonpalooza will take place from noon until 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The event is free to attend. Roadside Park is located off MacCorkle Avenue along the Kanawha River in St. Albans. More information can be found on the St. Albans Parks and Recreation website.
