An Oglethorpe County man pleaded guilty to drug and gun charges Monday in U.S. District Court knowing that he will spend the next several years in prison.

Mandrell Antwoin Hull, 43, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a release from the Middle District U.S. Attorney’s Office in Macon.

District Court Judge Tilman E. Self III will sentence Hull at a later date, although the defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison. He could receive substantially more time in a federal penitentiary whenever the judge decides on the penalty.

Hull was already on supervised release due to a federal marijuana distribution case stemming from charges when he was arrested on the most recent charges in April 2023, according to federal authorities.

The case against Hull developed when probation officers sought assistance from the FBI office in Athens, which led to a search of Hull’s home, located on a Winterville postal address in Oglethorpe County.

When agents searched Hull’s property, they seized cocaine, $32,826 cash, and a loaded 9mm pistol, according to the report.

Besides his federal drug conviction, Hull already had five felony convictions in Athens-Clarke County and one in Gwinnett County, federal agents reported.

In 2017, Athens-Clarke police reported that Hull was a member of a local street gang.

“Repeat offenders who continually disregard the law and whose actions harm our communities must be held accountable,” U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary said in a statement released with the report.
