There's perhaps no company that epitomizes the trend of paying for conveniences like Uber. Not only can you hail an Uber to get to your destination without having to wait for a bus or worry about having to park your own car, but you can also use Uber Eats to order restaurant food or have groceries delivered to your door. And thanks to the Uber One program, you can enjoy added perks on all of these things.

Uber One is a subscription service you can pay for on a monthly or annual basis. If you pay every month, it costs $9.99. For an annual subscription, you'll pay $96.

As an Uber One member, you can enjoy a number of benefits. Some of the primary ones include:

    • $0 delivery fees on eligible food and grocery purchases
    • Up to 10% off of eligible delivery orders
    • 6% Uber Cash on eligible rides

If you're thinking of signing up for Uber One, you should know you may be eligible for a 20% discount on your membership -- that is, if you're a Costco member or plan to become one.

Another way Costco can save you money

Costco members are familiar with the concept of saving money on items like groceries and household essentials. But the savings opportunities go well beyond that.

When you join Costco, you're eligible for perks that include discounted travel packages, eyewear, and home services. Heck, even the gas at Costco is cheaper than at most stations, generally speaking.

You should also know that Costco recently teamed up with Uber Eats to offer grocery delivery for people who either don't have an easy way to shop at Costco in person, or who don't enjoy the experience (the one downside to Costco is that stores are perpetually crowded in many corners of the country). And as a Costco member , you can also get 20% off an annual Uber One membership.

    Should you join Uber One?

Let's be clear: The services Uber offers are luxury ones -- not luxury in the sense of diamonds and caviar, but luxury in the sense that they're usually not necessary, kind of like streaming services and most subscription boxes.

Of course, there are exceptions. If you've been injured and can't drive or shop for food in person until you've recovered, then an Uber One membership may be a need more so than an indulgence. But for most people, it's the latter.

And that's OK, provided you can afford it. If money is tight, though, then you may want to hold off on joining Uber One until you're in a better place financially. And if you're juggling high-interest credit card debt, definitely work on paying it off before adding non-essential expenses like this to your monthly budget .

Also, if you're not sure how much use you'll get out of Uber One, you may want to join on a monthly basis. You can cancel at any time, and that way, you won't risk throwing $96 away (or a little less, if you get the Costco member discount) if you find that you don't use the service very often.
