The Washington Commanders have undergone major changes recently throughout the organization. With new ownership in place, the front office and coaching staff were cleaned out this offseason.

Adam Peters came over from the San Francisco 49ers to head the front office. His selection for head coach was Dan Quinn, the former head man for the Atlanta Falcons and most recently the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.

It will take a little while to get things turned around in Washington. The previous regime started the teardown ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, sending out Montez Sweat and Chase Young.

Plenty of building blocks remain, such as Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne and 2023 first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes. Veteran Bobby Wagner was signed to stabilize the defense as well.

But, what people are most excited for is the offense. Led by No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels, this unit should be much improved as they have been seeking out a new franchise quarterback for years.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner brings an impressive dual-threat ability for the team to build the offense around. He is surrounded by some solid weapons in wide receiver Terry McLaurin, running back Austin Ekeler and tight ends Zach Ertz and Ben Sinnott.

Given the pieces in place, Brent Sobleski has made a bold prediction about the Commanders. He believes that they will be the team that goes from worst to first during the 2024 season, taking home the NFC East crown.

“In Josh Harris’ first offseason as the principle owner, he hired a new general manager (Adam Peters) and head coach (Dan Quinn). The franchise’s new brain trust subsequently selected Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels with this year’s second overall draft pick. Furthermore, the front office added multiple reinforcements to the offensive line.

Daniels presence alone is a massive upgrade. His downfield passing and outstanding athleticism make him a dynamic dual-threat to drive defenses bonkers. Quinn, meanwhile, is one of the game’s best defensive minds. His staff should help drastically improve upon last season’s 32nd-ranked defense,” Sobleski wrote.

Sobleski also notes the current form of the other NFC East contenders, the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys . The Eagles spiraled at the end of the 2023 season and are transitioning at a few positions.

The Cowboys went 12-5 last season but did nothing in the offseason to upgrade their roster. The New York Giants don’t look like threats given the uncertainty with Daniel Jones at quarterback.

This could be the perfect storm for the Commanders to take advantage of. A playoff appearance in Year 1 of the new regime would do wonders for the franchise.
