Viral Reddit Thread Asks People What They Wish Costco Sold: Pet Products, Brand Names and More
By Jenna Fanelli,

If you ask any of the thousands of loyal Costco customers why they prefer to shop at the massive retailer, they’ll likely point to the fact that the store has competitive prices on everything one might need. Well — almost everything. One Reddit user started a viral thread on the online platform asking fellow users to name some items they wish Costco carried, and despite the chain’s reputation for being a one-stop-shop, incredibly specific answers came flooding in.

More brand names in certain categories
The first poster of this thread started with their own wish list, which consisted of high-end items. This includes “quality dog food” such as Purina Pro Plan and Hill’s Science Diet, and “bougie luxury candles” like Diptyque and Le Labo. Costco does sell pet food and candles, but not these more expensive brands.
A different digital experience
Quite a few users said they would prefer a more user-friendly Costco app and website. Others commented that they wanted the ability to peruse a database of what's in stock at a particular store on the Costco website, but responses offered potential reasons that this feature is not offered.
One person surmised that this is one of the trade-offs for being able to find such low prices at Costco: less money to pay for software developers. Plus, they added, one of the main attractions of Costco tends to be the in-store experience of browsing.

Other users noted that they’ve had success calling certain store locations and receiving information from staff members about which items are in stock. Some even added that companies that do allow consumers to search inventory of specific stores are not always accurate.
On a similar note, many users commented that they wanted a more convenient in-store shopping experience, including a scan-and-go option to make the checkout process quicker and more efficient.
Food court additions
Costco is one of the few retailers still home to food courts. While this is part of its appeal, some shoppers have menu items they’d like to see at their nearby locations. Some of the most suggested: pizza options beyond pepperoni and cheese (particularly the beloved combo pizza), Coca Cola products, soft pretzels, churros, coffee and polish hot dogs.

More cat products
A common criticism of many brick-and-mortar retailers is a lack of cat products compared to those for dogs. Many Reddit users in this thread lamented that they wished Costco
had more quality food, litter and other items specifically for cats.
Why do people love Costco?

While this thread garnered over 3,000 comments, this is not to be mistaken for a lack of love for Costco. There were also many meaningful responses to another Reddit thread that asked people why they enjoyed shopping at Costco. The resounding response was the value of the products in the stores.
“You get good deals on buying products in bulk, and they ten d to carry only items of decent quality,” one user w rote. “So it can be cheaper and help y ou save money, and you don't need t o buy low quality merchandise to sa ve money either.”
In the realm of bulk buying and wholesale bargains, Costco has long been a go-to for consumers seeking everything from giant tubs of peanut butter to economical bundles of toilet paper. Recently, however, one product has captured the public's imagination and sparked a viral sensation: the Readywise Emergency Food Bucket, appropriately named the 'Costco apocalypse […]
One person even said they bought a new furnace and air conditioner, blinds and a water treatment system for their home through Costco. After shopping around with different sellers, they found that the prices they scored with Costco were nearly $3,000 less.
“But they also gave us between 10 percent and 19 percent back (and that doesn't include 2 percent executive membership and 2 percent for what we put on our Costco card) in Costco gift cards,” they wrote. “It isn't unreasonable to say going through Costco for those three purchases saved us close to $10,000.”
