    Two Men Arrested, Charged in Shooting of THP Trooper Adam Cothron

    UPDATE JULY 23, 2024:

    Press Release from TBI: At the request of 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway, TBI special agents began investigating the Friday evening shooting, which occurred in the area of I-40 East at Exit 286 in Putnam County. Investigative efforts revealed the trooper stopped a white Kia Forte, with a temporary tag, driven by Timothy Laquan Davis, Jr. (DOB 7/9/1999). As the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver fired upon him, critically wounding him. At the time of this release, the trooper remained hospitalized in Nashville.

    On Tuesday night, authorities arrested Davis in Nashville without incident, charging him with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder. Davis’s passenger, Braze Rucker, is also in law enforcement custody and faces a charge of Criminal Responsibility of Facilitation of a Felony in relation to Friday’s shooting.

    The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.

    UPDATE JULY 21, 2024: Braze Rucker, sought in connection to the shooting of TN Highway Patrol Trooper Adam Cothron was found in Princeton, Kentucky and is in custody, reports TBI. Investigative efforts to identify the second individual in the vehicle at the time of Friday’s shooting remain active and ongoing. Have information that may help locate this person?     July 20, 2024 – Authorities are searching for two suspects who are wanted in connection to the shooting of Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Trooper Adam Cothron in Cookeville on July 19th.

    Authorities have identified one of the suspects as 29-year-old Braze Rucker and THP is offering a $10,000 award for information leading to the arrest of Rucker. Authorities are still trying to identify the second suspect.

    The incident happened on Friday night, July 19. “Officials said Trooper Adam Cothron pulled over a white Kia Forte for a traffic violation and was shot during the interaction. Shortly after, the vehicle fled on Highway 109 near Gallatin,” reports WKRN.

    THP posted on X at 9:15pm on Friday that they were searching for a white Kia Forte with a TN temp tag of Q9SC4JR. Around midnight, the Kia Forte was recovered in Sumner County.

    The TBI has added Rucker to the Tennessee Most Wanted List and he is considered to be armed and dangerous. A Blue Alert was also issued for Rucker. Rucker is described as a 29-year-old black male, 6’3″, 140 lbs with brown eyes and he is bald.

    Trooper Cothron was flown to Vanderbilt Trauma Center from Cookeville Regional Medical Center. “According to THP, Cothron is in stable condition,” reports WKRN. An account has been set up to assist Cothron and his family at Citizens Bank, which has 21 locations in the following counties: Bedford, Clay, Coffee, DeKalb, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Putnam, Smith, Sumner and Wilson.
