Team USA is set to begin its quest for a gold medal on Saturday against Serbia. After a thrilling win over Germany on Monday, one in which LeBron James flexed his muscles once again, Team USA is gearing up for the group stage.

However, Kevin Durant has not played in any of the exhibition games as he is nursing an injury. Furthermore, the latest update states that Durant might miss the opener against Serbia on Saturday, as Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported late Monday night.

"I think they're going to be playing Serbia without Kevin Durant. They were really hoping he was going to be able to play one of these two games in London...Steve Kerr met with him today and they decided he needs more time with that strained calf."

Windhorst added, "They are going to be very cautious here."

Durant dealt with a strained calf while he was a member of the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 playoff run, only for him to return and suffer a torn Achilles in the NBA Finals.

When Kerr was asked about potentially replacing Durant on Team USA, he gave a simple answer : "There's no thought of replacing Kevin."

Jrue Holiday also gave a strong stance and insisted they need him out there: "It’s Kevin Durant," Holiday said. "What are we talking about — we need him out there."

Team USA will face Serbia on Saturday in what will be a difficult matchup that includes Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic. Then, they face South Sudan on July 31 and Puerto Rico on August 3.

But, at least for now, Team USA might be playing without Kevin Durant as they begin the gold medal quest.
