Last week, two individuals from Coffee County were charged with trafficking methamphetamine following a search at a residence on Willacoochee Highway. On August 13, detectives with the Coffee County Drug Unit conducted an operation involving Charles Black, which led to a search of his residence on Willacoochee Highway. According to the report, Black left his residence before the warrant was served and was subsequently detained.

A traffic stop conducted by the Coffee County Drug Unit (CCDU) recently led to the arrest of a 23-year-old woman from Nicholls. According to a CCDU preliminary report, on July 23, detectives were conducting a proactive narcotics patrol in the area of Highway 135 and Old Pearson Highway when they observed a silver Cadillac CTS traveling towards Douglas. The vehicle failed to maintain its lane, crossing over the center line, which led to the traffic stop.

The Aurora City Council will consider at its study session Monday a proposal by council member Stephanie Hancock to impound vehicles that are not registered and insured. Hancock wants to empower police officers to impound vehicles for a variety of offenses. “Since the pandemic, the number of motor vehicles on Aurora’s roads with expired license plates or expired temporary registration tags has increased exponentially,” according to the ordinance. “More often than not, when a vehicle is stopped by a police officer for not having valid registration, the officer finds that the operator also does not have a valid driver’s license or insurance covering the operation of the motor vehicle as required by law.”
