'Demon' dog breeds branded 'stinkiest' by expert as he lists three dogs to avoid

A dog training guru has ignited a fiery debate online after revealing the three breeds he would never own .

Garret Wing, founder of American Standard Dog Training, boasts over two decades of experience training dogs from all corners of the globe. His impressive resume includes training police dogs, bomb detection dogs, and handling severe attack incidents.

However, there are three breeds that even this seasoned professional would avoid - and his reasons might shock you. In a YouTube video, he disclosed: "Top three dog breeds I would never personally own as a professional dog trainer."

"Starting with number one, the Central Asian Shepherd - also known as the Alabai. The males can get over 170lb+ and they're excellent livestock guardians. Problem is, I don't have any livestock. Now, if you have livestock at home, then you might get this dog to help protect the flock."

The second breed on his list was the Bloodhound, which can grow up to 110lbs. However, it's not their size that deters Garrett - but rather their oily skin.

He elaborated: "That oily skin makes them stink like no other dog - I don't care how many baths you give them, they just have a smell about them that's hard to get rid of."

"And number three, the Chihuahua. If I needed a 3lb demon from the underworld that served no other purpose than to sit on my lap and bite anything that comes within 3ft range of me, then I'd get a Chihuahua. But it'll be a hard pass for me on that one."

Garret's contentious comments about Chihuahuas have sparked a firestorm online, with a torrent of responses pouring in. Supporters of the breed were swift to counteract, as one individual posted: "My Chihuahua, Sparky, was the most sweet-tempered, laid back, silly boy. Everybody loved him! " Another chimed in: "Had a Chihuahua for 14 years. Best little demon you could imagine LOL."

However, some were quick to concur with Garret's sentiments, with one user penning: "Most accurate Chihuahua description."

The trainer's views also surface just months after Downing Street imposed a ban on XL Bullies, following a terrifying 21 per cent surge in dog attacks. Freedom of Information requests revealed that police in England and Wales logged 30,539 offences of a dog injuring a person or guide dog in 2023. This marked an increase from 25,291 in 2022.

Amidst this, Jeanette Muldoon, a canine behaviorist at the UK's Family Dog Club, told The Mirror that it's crucial to have a dog that aligns with your lifestyle and personality type. A dog with unfulfilled needs is more prone to aggression.

She stated: "Some of the cutest puppies - huskies for example - are often adverse to lots of cuddles, which can be hard for some people as they can look cuddly in some people's eyes.."

"For some dogs, residing in a built up area could be stressful for them, herding breeds for example are the managers of the dog world, and struggle if they're only given road walks. They may find the fast traffic difficult to cope with."

"[It's important to] do your research into the breed, breed specific Facebook groups give an indication of the issues other people have."
