Netflix is continuing its push into video games, hiring Alain Tascan to be president of its Netflix Games division.

“Alain brings over 30 years of experience in global video game development, production, licensing, and building studios,” Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said in a statement. “He has a passion for making great games and a proven track record of taking bold creative bets. We’re thrilled to have him leading Netflix Games.”

“In an ever-evolving entertainment landscape, Netflix has continually demonstrated an unparalleled ability to innovate and captivate audiences worldwide,” Tascan added. “I am honored and thrilled to build on the remarkable foundation that the talented games team here has laid, and I firmly believe that Netflix is uniquely positioned to redefine the future of gaming.”

Tascan was most recently executive vp game development at Epic Games, the studio behind the juggernaut Fortnite . At Epic, Tascan has overseen the development of Fortnite , Lego Fortnite , Rocket League and Fall Guys . Before Epic, he founded the Montreal-based studios for both EA and Ubisoft, turning the Canadian city into a video game hub.

He succeeds Mike Verdu, who is shifting to a new role at the company in game development.

Netflix entered the gaming space in 2021, with a focus on mobile games, making them free to subscribers of the service. It has since acquired a handful of small game studios to help build games in-house, and is particularly interested in developing games based on its own IP. To that end, the company says that a Squid Game multiplayer game will be released later this year, timed to the second season of the hit series.
