(WKBN) — Voting in Ohio ahead of the Nov. 5 general elections begins for some as early as September.

Ohio will once again be a battleground state for the presidential election. So much so that Ohio had previously changed its rules, when Biden was still in the running, to give Democrats enough time to get his name on the ballot due to the timing of the Democratic Convention, which is set for Aug. 19.

Now, with Biden ending his reelection bid Sunday , the state’s rules — and temporary rules — may need to be looked at again.

Secretary of State Frank LaRose had previously said that Sept. 1 would be a cutoff date; however, Democratic leaders say they will have an official presidential ticket well before then.

“The DNC, any time before Sept. 1, could decide to go with a different candidate — assuming they could get around bylaw and delegate restrictions,” LaRose wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “After Sept. 1, unless there were some sort of court ruling, they wouldn’t be able to change who they certify to the ballot.”

The first group of Ohio voters who will be able to cast a ballot for the general election will be military and overseas absentee voting, which begins Sept. 20.

The deadline to register to vote in Ohio is Oct. 7 and early in-person voting begins Oct. 8 and includes two Saturdays and two Sundays before Election Day.

Absentee voting by mail begins Oct. 8. If not returned by mail with a postmark of no later than Nov. 4, absentee ballots must be received by local boards of elections by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.

Election Day is Nov. 5 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Ohio.
