Golden Retriever 'Becomes HOA President' and Tackles the Job Like a Boss

Our dogs are freeloaders. We all know that. Unless they're influencers, I suppose, they are doing absolutely nothing to earn their keep except being adorable. We've let it slide for years, but no more!

On Sunday, July 21st, one neighborhood decided to put a Golden Retriever to work as president of their HOA. They even held a meeting for it, and Teddy seems excited for his new position. His first act as president has everyone cracking up:

A Guy and a Golden will totally do everything about this job correctly. Teddy will not abuse his powers or issue fines for "not giving treats to the president" ever...

Teddy is more famous than a lot of actual human celebrities: he has over 8 million followers and a verified TikTok account. There are a few things that may have contributed to his rising fame, like the fact that he is a cute Golden Retriever, and that his dad is hilarious and has the best ideas for skits.

Teddy is honorary president of his neighborhood's HOA now, which everyone there must enjoy; a dog is a great way to make neighborhood friends, and Teddy is a neighborhood favorite. He looks like the friendliest guy around... except when he's issuing fines, but, heavy is the head that bears the crown, you know?

HOAs and Dogs Have Complicated Relationships

Teddy is obviously above the law as president, but many other dogs aren't so lucky. Home Owners Associations (HOAs) are becoming increasingly controversial, especially on social media, and especially where dogs are concerned.

Different HOAs all have different rules that vary based on location, the president, and the general neighborhood vibes. HOAs can, for example, impose breed restrictions or restrictions on the number of pets you can have in their neighborhood. If you're wanting to bring a new puppy home or have pets and are about to move to an HOA neighborhood, you must check that specific HOA's pet policy first - otherwise, a human may turn up at your door and hit you with a fine. Who wants that?

One of Teddy's citations was actually valid in the eyes of some HOA policies; you may be expected to make sure there are no dog (or human) toys in your front yard, and you will almost certainly be required to pick up your dog's waste on walks or in your own front yard. Though, that's just the decent thing to do.

If your HOA has pet rules that you believe are unfair, you should check your local ordinances and find out if their rules comply. If they don't, you can raise concerns with higher authorities - or you can organize your neighbors to bring it up to your human HOA president... and maybe elect a Golden Retriever in their place!
