Naruto and TMNT are Crossing Over in a New Comic

Naruto is one of the biggest anime and manga series ever, with the ninja series selling over 250 million copies of the manga and having been watched by millions. It’s probably not the biggest ninja media in the West, though — that honor goes to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Naturally, then, it makes sense that, someday, the two would cross over, and that day is today.

Comic book company IDW, which handles the TMNT comics, has revealed a crossover between the Turtles and Naruto. It’s a collaborative effort with Viz Media, the licensor and publisher of Naruto in the west, and will be a four-issue series coming later this year.

The cover art for the first issue, from Jorge Jiménez and Hendry Prasetya, was shared with IGN , and it looks absolutely gorgeous, with the four Turtles hanging out in brand-new outfits with Naruto’s younger version. Here’s the story description from IDW, also courtesy of IGN:

When teenage reporter April O’Neil has a clandestine meeting with Tsunade, the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, it garners the attention of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. They aren’t the only ones who are wondering what the two women were discussing, though. The sinister Foot Clan have their own interest in April’s visit, as they think she might hold the valuable information on mutation research being conducted by the scientist Baxter Stockman. With April caught between the forces of the Hidden Leaf Village and the Foot Clan, it can’t be long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up to lend her a hand!

The four-part series is being written by Caleb Goellner, famous for his work on the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, so it’s bound to be pretty fantastic. Prasetya is illustrating the series, with coloring from Raúl Angulo and lettering from Ed Dukeshire — an all-star lineup, really.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto #1 will be released on November 13, 2024. Maybe, if we’re lucky, it’ll also get turned into an animated project of some kind — maybe an anime series, or maybe something like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which proves you don’t need Shredder to tell a good Turtles story.
