Have you ever watched a movie and found yourself utterly enchanted by the set design and wishing your own space looked even half as good? For TikTok creator Elisa (@ourNHhome) , the effortlessly gorgeous kitchen from Practical Magic didn't just capture her heart—it inspired a complete DIY makeover. And, best of all, it is a luck you can pull off too!

✨ Open Shelving without the Demolition ✨ I've always loved the kitchen from the movie *Practical Magic* (my main inspiration when choosing my kitchen sink). The open cabinets with the plate racks are so charming, so I decided to give it a go on a budget! I had some beadboard textured wallpaper left over from my master bedroom project (which I'll eventually share), the wooden dowels from Home Depot cost less than $25, and the corner trim pieces were $10.99 from Amazon. I also had the white paint (color matched to my cabinets) left over from my vent hood project. What do you think?! ☺️ I love it, and my husband does too. Nothing in this project is permanent, so if we decide to put the doors back up, it’s easily doable. Personally, I don't see us going back, and I’m already planning on opening up the cabinet opposite the vent. #fyp #foryoupage #cottagecore #cottagecoreaesthetic #whimsicaldecor #frenchcountrydecor #ournhhome #practicalmagic #practicalmagickitchen #practicalmagicdecor #openshelvingdiy #openshelving #opencabinets

♬ This Kiss (From "Practical Magic") - Movie Soundtrack All Stars

Elisa, already a fan of Practical Magic, has already brought some magical movie touches into her kitchen, starting with a pretty much identical sink, but she wanted to go bigger. Her inspiration? The movie kitchen's open shelving which also helped showcase the upright plate holders in said kitchen cabinets. And while she loved the look, she wanted to do it without breaking the budget which meant keeping things... practical, in her own way.

The first step was to take the doors off her cabinets. This simple act alone opened up the space significantly. Measuring the inner area, Elisa created a frame for her plate holder using some trim with holes drilled into it for dowels. This was important, as the dowels would serve as support for the plates. A little tip from Elisa: make sure to measure your dishware first to ensure everything fits perfectly.

Use Tape To Visualize The Space

One of the most brilliant parts of Elisa's DIY process was her use of tape . By taping everything in place initially, she could visualize the final look and make adjustments without fully committing. This meant she could tweak and perfect the setup before making anything permanent.

Next, instead of going the traditional route of fully painting her cabinets, Elisa went for textured peel-and-stick wallpaper that magically mimicked beadboard perfectly. Double-sided tape was her secret weapon to keep the wallpaper securely in place. The result? A beautiful texture that added depth to her cabinets without the mess of paint.

To cover up the holes left by the cabinet door hinges, Elisa used ornate trim she found on Amazon. With the holes now hidden, the next step was to paint the inside of the cabinets white, ensuring a cohesive look throughout. And finally, with everything prepped, it was time to assemble the shelves. The rail was installed, and the ornate trim was added, giving the cabinets that refined, magical touch.

The final result was nothing short of spectacular. The open shelving not only made the kitchen feel more spacious but also added an air of enchantment that was hard to ignore.
