Basset Hounds Only Wake Up to One Particular Sound and It's So On-Brand

A funny dog parent shows everyone the one sound that makes their four Basset Hounds wake up from a nap every time, and it makes total sense.

On July 17, 2024, TikTok user BassetHound TikTok (@bassethoundnanny) shared a video of them trying to wake up their four sleepy dogs with everyday sounds, and something finally worked, and it's very on-brand. Take a look!

In a minute-and-a-half-long video and the third installment in the series, the dog parents have the camera set on their four sleepy dogs as they run through several sounds to see if any will get their dogs to wake up.

They found the one sound that seemed to work every time, but not before trying several others first.

In the clip, six Basset Hounds are sleeping in the living room, some on the couch and others on the floor. The dog's parents were standing a little bit away so they could have the camera show all the pups while they tried to see which sounds would wake up the dogs, if any.

The first was a "loud package" that crinkled, but not one of the doggies moved or work up. The second thing they tried was sprinkles, then a box of cereal, shaking both of them to try and get the dogs to react but they just kept sleeping.

They did the same for a bag of cherries, a bag of dog snacks, and a bag of chips.

That bag of chips woke one of the Basset Hounds up, but the other five were still asleep.

The big winner, the item that got all six Basset Hounds to wake up was the cookie jar.

"I had someone comment that it wasn't 'real' if I didn't record them approaching me," the text on the screen read. So the camera kept rolling, and sure enough, not only did the cookie jar wake all six dogs up, but it made all six dogs walk up to their mom with the hopes they'd get to eat one of the dog cookies from the cookie jar.

"Yes, everyone does get a snack after the video," the text on the screen promised.

In the comments, people shared their take on waking the dogs up and how funny it is they wake up for one very specific thing.

One wrote, "I absolutely love this! I love that you’re turning it into a series!"

Another added, "My boss, I would’ve woke up to the bag thinking it was a treat."

Someone else wrote, "If I bought lots of cookies and shook them, would I be swamped by Bassetts? I'm running to buy cookies now."

Another shared, "My Basset would have come to me at the first item thinking it’s a treat."

A TikTok user shared, "That’s adorable. My Labradors would have been up at package #1."

Someone else joked, "6 Bassetts I love it! I have 4 and sometimes wonder what is wrong with us!

How Much Sleep Should a Basset Hound Get?

According to the Basset Hound Enthusiast , these pups sleep a lot daily.

"A Basset Hound puppy will sleep 16 to 22 hours a day while a Basset Hound over a year old will sleep 13 to 18 hours a day," the site explains. "Basset Hounds sleep a lot because they do not have a very active lifestyle. They will nap a lot of times throughout the day."

When your dog reaches senior age, they'll probably need some extra sleep than in their prime adult years. "Senior Basset Hounds often benefit from more rest due to a decline in activity level and energy, so they can often get away with 16 hours or more of snoozing time every day," the Basset Hound Enthusiast shares.
